Some Australian soccer fans in Qatar say they want to leave the World Cup early after claiming their home was “flooded with sewage”.

Fans have reportedly been forced to queue overnight for their rooms to be ready, only to then experience leaking sewage and no hot water.

Qatar World Cup officials have offered full refunds and new accommodation to the fans affected – but some supporters are ready to go home.

Problems have been reported across several housing villages, including Free Zone Fan Village, Barwa Barahat Al Janoub Housing Unit, Fan Village Cabins Zafaran and Saffron Fan Village.

Angry Socceroos fans have been posting on social media, with many saying they are now considering selling their tickets.

“I honestly don’t know what to do. We are considering selling our tickets and leaving early, but I think our chances of a refund on the overnight stay are low, wrote one.

Another said: ‘Anyone else in the fan villages having a terrible experience? Leak in bathroom causing flooding, no hot water, customer service has been overwhelmed with people’s complaints.’

Others have spoken of how their flat was flooded with sewage, forcing them to look elsewhere for accommodation.

They said: ‘We are in the village of Baraw and our apartment has been flooded with sewage two days in a row. That said, they reckon they’ve now fixed it and there’s a team of cleaners here, but they said that yesterday too.

“We gave up and found accommodation elsewhere. If you need a guy’s number I can give it to you. He is a property manager and rents out furnished apartments by the month, but only stay as long as you need. It’s the same price.

In a statement to The Sun Online, Qatar’s Supreme Committee officially blamed the check-in delays and poor conditions on “owner and operator negligence”.

They also admitted that some devices “have not met the required standards that were advertised to fans”, and promised that “correcting these issues remains the highest priority”.

The statement added: “Full refunds are being offered to fans heavily affected by this issue, as well as alternative accommodation which will be free of charge during their stay.”
