“Well, not being this year and not having a lot of time left in my career, I’m not sure I’m going to be in,” Finch told SEN Radio.

“But I think it will happen eventually. I’m not sure where I sit on that one, to be honest.

“It’s such a special time for families to be together and I think when you play Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, obviously there’s a Test match followed by a Big Bash match that night, there’s still a lot of content in and around there .

“So I think the way it’s set up at the moment is fine.”

The NBL has scheduled a Christmas Day basketball clash between bitter rivals Sydney Kings and Melbourne United in what will be the first professional sporting competition to be played on December 25 in Australia in 50 years.

The day has been off for sports since the 1960s when some cricket matches were played on the bank holiday.

The Big Bash League briefly considered reintroducing a Christmas Day cricket match in 2019, but decided against it due to the reception from the players.

The Melbourne Renegades will play the Hobart Hurricanes on Christmas Eve, where they will look to continue what they did against the Sydney Thunder last week.

Finch is very happy with the way his team has started the season.

“Going 2-0 is a really good start I think, it’s the first time in a few years we’ve done that,” he said.

“Winning those close games is so important, especially at the start of the year because you don’t want to leave too much on the back burner when you get into situations where you need to win five out of six (to make finals).

“There is no guarantee, but there is a good feeling around the group.”
