Black Panther 2 had a surprising amount of “fish poo” on screen

It’s no surprise that Marvel is Black Panther 2 had a surprising amount of attention to detail in the production, right down to the “fish poo” that floated in the water.

Talking to cartoon, VFX supervisor Chris White revealed that the special effects team spent a good deal of time discussing the small details on set to ensure the scenes looked realistic.

“If you want to talk about details, we were literally discussing the shape of the fish poo that makes up all that floating around and how we have to make sure the shape is right,” he said.

“Because when the lighters light it and it’s not the right shape, it doesn’t look like underwater. We have a diagram [where] someone has modeled the various forms of poo that fish excrete, then made millions of what floats around them.”

White added that it was someone’s job for the entire film to take care of the “fish poo” and make sure it looked good on screen. “We had someone who was full-time just doing it,” he said.

“What he did throughout the film was for every shot, making sure it shot with the right movement and had the right character and the density was right and it had the underwater flow and he got notes back on it like well about how you can make it better.”
