Coronation Street spoilers – Damon Hay’s secret agenda confirmed

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street newcomer Ciarán Griffiths has warned of an ulterior motive as his character Damon Hay settles into Weatherfield life.

The former Shameless the actor has been cast as Jacob Hay’s father, who made his first appearance on the cobbles in last Friday’s episode.

Monday’s episode (December 19) sees Damon continue his attempts to make up with Jacob after years of estrangement.

Although Damon seems genuine, viewers soon discover that he is more interested in making his mark at the bistro following Nick Tilsley’s recent secret affair with Harvey Gaskell.

Speaking about his character, Ciarán explained: “He definitely has an ulterior motive. He finds out that he’s back to make amends with Jacob and he slowly starts to build his trust, but I think it will be to let him down again .

“He’s just using Jacob to his own advantage, which you get the impression he’s been doing for much of his life.”

Ciarán continued: “He’s definitely trying to take over Harvey’s patch and do his own thing. He doesn’t want to be in Harvey’s shadow, he’s here for himself.

“It’s about the opportunity for Damon and how he can get around Nick and Leanne, who are basically on a bit of blackmail.

“Harvey has loaned this money to Nick for Sam, which he has invested in the bistro. But Damon says, ‘I actually loaned the money to Harvey, so that’s my stake in the business.’

“Nick doesn’t want Leanne to know about the deal he made with Harvey, so that’s how Damon has got Nick in his back pocket. He’s blackmailing Nick and putting him in a position where he can’t tell Leanne, so he’s forced to leave along with what Damon wants.”

Asked if Damon intends to stick around, Ciarán replied: “I think he’ll hang on to his stake at the bistro as long as he can, but if it gets too hot to handle, he’ll be gone in a flash and leave everyone else to pick up the pieces.”

Coronation Street sent on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
