Coronation Street spoilers follow.
Martha Fraser (Stephanie Beacham) has returned to Coronation Street after 13 years, and she’s already caused some turbulence.
Ken Barlow is currently in a relationship with Wendy Papadopoulos (Roberta Kerr), but the re-emergence of glamorous Martha (with whom he previously had an affair) has created a new temptation.
Bill Roache, who plays Ken, has shared his character’s take on the situation, and it seems he’s just as unsure about the outcome of the love triangle as the audience is.

Bill explained: “Wendy’s come back into his life and they’ve realized they still have the same feelings for each other and now Martha’s complicated things.
“He doesn’t know how she’s going to feel about him after the way he left her. He’s embarrassed about it, and he doesn’t know if either of them will have the same feelings.”
Illustrating Ken’s dilemma, he shared “Wendy gives him his current lifestyle, slippers and cocoa, supper in front of the telly and all that. While Martha offers him the life he has always dreamed of, the life of being with intellectuals and writers in London, the theater and all the things he himself wanted.
“So that’s where the dichotomy for Ken is, he’s torn between two women, there’s no disputing the fact that he loves them both, but one offers him his current comfortable lifestyle and the other offers him the life he dreamed of.”

So which path will he take?
Martha has invited Ken to Hull, and whether he goes or not can only answer the question. But his choice could also change more than just his relationship status.
Bill laid out Ken’s options: “It used to be Deirdre on the scene and she was the big draw for Weatherfield, but now he’s free and it’s just a choice between Wendy and Martha. He doesn’t know what to do, and frankly neither do I. If he goes with Martha, I’ll leave the street, and that would be quite an upheaval now!”
In short, Martha’s reappearance could have a much bigger impact than we know for Ken. The only way to find out is to watch and hope he chooses wisely.
Coronation Street sent on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
