Emmerdale star Ash Palmisciano opens up about heartbreaking loss

Emmerdale star Ash Palmisciano has opened up about the sad loss of his mother earlier this year.

The actor, who plays Matty Barton in the ITV soap, lost his mother in May to complications from rheumatoid arthritis, aged 60.

Ash called his mother “a true inspiration” to the family and said she was also a wonderful nanny.

“Poor Matty has had a rough time Emmerdalebut there was always so much love in the family home and mum was the most important person in my life,” he shared The mirror.

“Grief is such a beast that’s uncontrollable and you’re not prepared for it. We don’t talk about loss and it’s something we all have to face in our lives. It’s been a terrible year and I find it difficult.”

He said his mother had a brave face despite suffering from the disease.

“Mum was so strong and so brave. She was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 29, but she secretly suffered because she wanted to fill our lives with positivity.

“She was very glamorous, working, running the school, and always checking in with me and my sister to make sure we were okay.

“She was a miracle because she had so many health scares in her life from the effects of that — and despite her health struggles, she was brave and dignified until the end.”

He hopes to make the holiday a happy time, despite it being the first Christmas without his mother.

“I’m sure we’ll all have our moments. But we want to recreate her wonderful spirit and energy for her two grandchildren, as she was such a wonderful nanna.

“We want to make it fun for them — and if she’s watching, we hope she’ll be impressed.”
