WBC and Ring Magazine super flyweight champions Estrada (43-3, 28 KOs) and Gonzalez (51-3, 41 KOs) will fight for the third and possibly final time in their rivalry after a controversial rematch last year in Dallas, Texas that prompted the judges to yield an unpopular decision win for Juan Francisco.
Despite Estrada being cheered by the crowd before the contest, Chocolatito won over the fans by dominating the match.
Still, the judges gave it to Estrada in a fight that wasn’t even close. One judge 117-111 [9-3] in favor of Estrada, and he took a lot of criticism afterwards from the fans.
“I feel like it’s going to be the better of the two, so I feel good,” Juan Francisco Estrada told Fight Hub TV about Saturday’s trilogy fight against Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez.
“I am mentally and physically prepared to walk away with the win. No doubt we know each other very well and he wants to hit me and I want to hit him too.
– Right now we are 1-1. The only thing that will change is the physical preparation for this match. So that’s why I feel like it’s going to be the best.
“I have been struggling with a knee injury in the last two games, with injuries, but for this one I am 100% prepared. I think what we can boil it down to is the type of preparation that both fighters have.
“Without a doubt, it affects people and it affected me and that’s why we canceled the fight in the first place. But I feel good physically and I’m 100%. There will be no excuses. If he beats me, it’s because he is a better fighter, and if I beat him, I’m the better fighter.
“I know it will be a good match and I can guarantee that. I think the fights will look like the first two because I won’t get knocked out. I think he’s going to do the same and I think it’s going to look similar to the first two games.
“I’m in good physical shape and so is he and I think it’s going to be a great fight. Well, I’m going to do what I did in the last game, and with the physical condition I have now, what I’m going to do is throw more strikes, which is what I needed to do in the second game.
“Well, the one holding the belts was me. I won that fight and in the first fight a lot of people gave me the fight and thought I won and a lot of people thought he won as far as the fans are concerned, Estrada said of his belief that he deserved his controversial 12th round split decision victory over Chocolatito in their second match last year.
“As a result, we are 1-1 because of that. This match will decide everything. Therefore, we prepared to win clearly. I don’t know if it will be by knockout, but I know we can win by points in broad fashion. That is what we will try to do to win this game convincingly.
“The smaller weight classes get better fights. They also put on a better show for the people they like. The only thing left is the money. They have to pay us more, but I think this new generation will retire soon. I think we will be entered into the boxing history books.
“I’ve done a lot, no doubt, but I feel like I have four or five more games. I feel physically good, but maybe against Ioka or Puma Martinez, against some of the other champions to unify, Estrada said.
